Health & Social Care AS A2 (single or double award) at The Rushden Community College

Course content

AS (Single Award): Unit 1 - Effective Caring. Unit 2 - Effective Communication. Unit 3 - Health, Illness & Disease. AS (Double Award) Units 1,2 and 3 together with Unit 4 - Child Development. Unit 6 - Common Diseases and Disorders. Unit 9 - Complementary Therapies.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades C or above.
GCSE Health & Social Care is an advantage but not essential. GCSE Science is also an advantage.

Assessment

Offered as a single or double award. Double Award - 5 compulsory units and 7 optional units. Single Award - 3 compulsory units and 3 optional units. Assessment for each unit is either through portfolio (coursework) or external assessment, completed at the end of each unit. Units 1, 4 and 6 involve an external exam. The double award is comparable to two A Levels. The single award is comparable to one A Level. AS one year, A2 one year.

Future opportunities

This course will also prepare you for further study and training.

As an applied subject this course carries the same UCAS weighting as any traditioanl AS/A2 subject.
