Games Design: Level 3 Extended Diploma at Suffolk New College

Course description

If you are passionate about making computer games this study programme is for you. Throughout the study programme you will be making your own games and developing teamwork skills as required by the games industry. You will go through the complete production process from concept drawings to creating a full game at the end of the year. You will learn about the games industry and receive helpful advice from a range of professionals and guest speakers. You will take part in game jams, where you will compete with other teams and have 48 hours to produce a playable game. You will also be able to put your skills to use outside the College, by taking part in related work experience and different live projects.  

All students who have not achieved a grade C or grade 4, or above in GCSE English or Maths or both will need to study an English or/and Maths qualification alongside their chosen main qualification

Course content

Whatever your passion is for games design, we offer you a broad practical approach to many aspects of games production that will include: • 3D Modelling • Animation for games • Sound production • Level design • Concept art • Games design theory You will also have a personal tutor who teaches on the programme and will support you throughout your time at Suffolk New College

Entry requirements

At least 4 GCSEs grade C or grade 4 or above, including English Language or a level 2 in Media at merit level, and an interview with the course tutors.

Financial information

Tuition Costs 

No tuition fees are payable for students aged 16 – 18 on 31 August 2017. For all students aged 19+ please visit our website www.suffolk.ac.uk. Details regarding fee remission and Advanced Learning Loans can also be found at the above website.

Additional Costs

There is a £70 Trips and Materials payment to be made, to cover specialist workshop materials and experiences. These will include trips to games conventions that will be supported by visits from guest speakers and games industry professionals.  

Future opportunities

The course has been designed to help you progress onto university or into the games design industry. You will also be given tailored advice and guidance from your personal tutor about your next steps. Students who complete this course may progress on to Higher Education.
