Course description

AS Units Unit 1 Human Growth and Development:In this unit you will explore the key aspects of Growth and Development for every life stage. Unit 2 Communication and Values: This unit will give you an understanding of the importance of communication in all caring activities. Unit 3 Positive Care Environment: On completion of this unit you will understand that organisations and society have a responsibility to protect and safeguard the rights of those who are vulnerable by policy and legislation. A2 Units Unit 7 Meeting Individual Needs: This unit will focus on how services are tailored to meet individual needs through care plans and the multi disciplinary environment. Unit 8 Promoting Health and Wellbeing: By carrying out your own small scale health promotion you will learn about different approaches to Health Education. Unit 9 Investigating disease: In this unit you will learn about the disease process. You will carry out an individual investigation into two diseases, including the biology and treatment of the disease, and strategies for prevention and epidemiological methods of tracking the disease. Assessment Unit 1 and 7: Externally assessed by an External test. Unit 2, 3, 8 and 9: Internally assessed Portfolio of evidence produced. Additional course information The AS in Heath & Social Care is ideally suited for study alongside Biology, Sociology, Psychology , PE at Level 3 or with level 2 courses like ICT, Business or Sport and Exercise for those with good grades at GCSE HSC.
