Government and Politics AS Level at Riverside College Halton

Course content

Most people do not know much about Politics. Yet it is one of the most talked about subjects in the world, and we are expected to understand the issues on which we have to vote. Studying Politics will increase your awareness of political issues, and develop your political views on an informed basis. No previous knowledge of Politics is required to take this course.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A-C GCSE subject passes, including a minimum of 2 grade Bs, one to be in English Language or a related subject.

Assessment

You will be externally assessed. In the first year you will sit 3 x 1hr exams and in the second year you will sit 2 x 1.5 hr exams.

Future opportunities

You could progress to a BA Hons degree in Politics, International Relations, History or Media. Following this you could enter employment in a range of professions including Law, the Police, Journalism and the Civil Service.

Further information

Students will need their own stationery. You will be provided with a textbook. It would help your studies if you read quality newspapers (available in the library).
