Business with Accountancy (BTEC) at Stanford & Corringham Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business Level 3 qualification is equivalent in size to three A’ Levels and is designed to be a two year full-time course that meets entry requirements in its own right for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment. This qualification can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment in job roles in business or business management and Higher Apprenticeships in the business sector.

The BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business Level 3 qualification gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the business sector that will prepare them for further study, training or employment. In particular.

Course content

Mandatory Units (seven core units) all of which include an element of external assessment:

  1. Exploring Business
  2. Developing a Marketing Campaign
  3. Personal and Business Finance
  4. Managing an Event
  5. International Business
  6. Principles of Management
  7. Business Decision Making

Selected Optional Units from the following (six additional units required) with emphasis on Accountancy skills and all of which are internally assessed (externally moderated):

  1. Recruitment and Selection Process
  1. Recording Financial Transactions
  2. Final Accounts for Public Limited Companies
  3. Financial Statements for Specific Businesses
  1. Cost and Management Accounting
  1. Market Research

Whilst the selected optional units are internally assessed and subject to external moderation, the mandatory units are in the main externally assessed under controlled conditions with the examining body (Pearson) awarding a mark/grade. Assessments include both examinations and set tasks. External assessments are available either once or twice a year with one resit attempt allowed for each learner (if needed).

Entry requirements

It is not necessary to have previously studied GCSE Business Studies, but a grade 5 in GCSE English and Mathematics are required. Students that have studied Business Studies at GCSE should have shown an aptitude for the subject by achieving at least a grade 6.

Financial information

£30.00 deposit to cover all text books to be paid on enrolment day. This will be refunded at the end of your course once your books have been returned to the subject teacher.

£5.00 non-refundable payment for an Access Key Fob to access Gable Hall School, Sixth Form and St Clere's School.

Future opportunities

The qualification is recognised by higher education institutions as fully meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses in a variety of areas in the business sector, as single or joint programmes at degree, foundation degree or HND level such as Business, Accounting & Finance. After this qualification, learners can progress directly to employment; however it is likely that many will do so via higher study. Areas of employment include junior business roles in marketing, accountancy, administration, finance, events management, HR and other related areas in the business sector, including higher apprenticeships.
