Health and Social Care AS/A Level at Prendergast - Hilly Fields College
All Applied GCE specifications in Health and Social Care should encourage candidates to: • Develop and sustain an interest in health, early-years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector • Acquire knowledge and understanding of health, early-years care and education and issues affecting the health and social care sector • Develop skills that will enable them to make an effective contribution to the care sector including skills of research, evaluation and problem-solving in a work related context • Apply knowledge, understanding and skills • Prepare for further study and training. AS Level Health and Social Care units consist of: Promoting quality care; Communication in care settings; Promoting good health; Health and Safety in Care Settings; Working in Early Years Care and Education and Health as a Lifestyle Choice. A2 Level Health and Social Care units consist of: Care Practice and Provision; Social Trends; Anatomy and Physiology in Practice; Child Development; Research Methods in Health and Social Care.
4 A-C grades at GCSE with at least a C grade in English and at least a D grade in Science. Grade C at AS level.
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Health and Social Care, which could lead onto higher education, BTEC Higher Nationals or NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in areas of childcare, healthcare, Nutrition, or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to Health and Social Care such as a Nurse, Midwife, Dietician, Teacher or areas of Social Work. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the social sectors.
