Art and Design Textile Design A Level at Guildford College

You should consider a course in Textiles at Guildford College.
You will enjoy developing your understanding of the visual world, learning practical skills and responding to ideas and issues that are personal to you.
The Textile Design course offers the opportunity to develop skills over a broad range of textile and costume techniques and applications, such as printing, weaving, knitting, crochet, embroidery, dress-making, surface design and installation.
Practical work is produced by researching and developing ideas using drawing, digital exploration, sketchbooks etc. which are supported by critical evaluation and an awareness of contemporary and historical influences.
Course content includes:
- Costume design and making
- Printed textiles
- Weaving, knitting, crochet, machine & hand embroidery
- Art textiles
- Installed textiles
All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.
5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English). You must have a grade B or above in an Art and Design subject, or Textile Technology.
You will also be invited to an interview where you will be asked to showcase your portfolio of work.
You will produce a portfolio of work and personal work in response to a choice of various exciting starting points. You will also work for a personal investigation into an idea, issue, concept or theme supported by written material.
Studying Textiles could lead to a degree in Constructed Textiles, Contemporary Textiles, Costume and Set Design, Fashion Promotion/Merchandising, Footwear Design, Theatre Design, Sportswear Design or Textile Science and Technology.
