Design - Graphic Design (Year 1) - Level 3 at North Kent College
Based within CIDA (Creative Industrial Design & Arts) this course aims to equip aspiring designers with a thorough understanding of the key aspects and concepts for visual communication that underpin all course assignment work. Artwork is developed by an exploration of typography, illustration and graphic image-making in the form of packaging design, corporate identity, promotional graphics and poster design. Study is supported by a dedicated team of industry practitioners ensuring the required skills are kept under constant review and abreast of best-practice. Aspiring designers will have opportunities to engage with live off-campus projects and real clients.
This course delivers the essential skills required to pursue and gain access through university or apprenticeship to a career in Advertising, Corporate Identity, Layout design, Illustration, Marketing & Promotions, Art Direction, Picture Editing, Magazine & Newsprint design, Retail Design and Typographic design. Essential skills being; Generation and development of ideas; research and understanding of forms of visual communication; type layout; digital techniques and applications; illustration techniques and applications.
4 GCSE A* - C grades or equivalent. portfolio and interview. Formal academic qualifications may be waived for mature applicants but portfolio and interview still apply.
Design Journal, research journals, Prototypes and Models, Portfolio and Presentation.
£150 course contribution per year. Materials/visits/exhibition contributions.
Year 2 through successful completion of year 1; then Higher Education or Employment
