Chemistry at Hastingsbury Business and Enterprise College

Course description

Chemistry takes the basics learnt at GCSE to a higher level. It looks at the theory behind the subject in more detail. You are taught to be more analytical and learn new practical techniques. Chemistry also teaches a logical way of working. It is ideal preparation for anyone considering a move into the Medical Profession, a career in Chemistry or even Accounting.

AS

  • Module 1 Students study two units 'Elements of Life' and 'Developing Fuels'.
  • Module 2 This module consists of three units 'Elements from the sea', 'The Atmosphere' and 'Polymer Revolution'
  • Module 3 There are four skill areas that are assessed under exam conditions

    Module 4 There are four topics covered in this course. These are “What’s in a medicine?”, “Materials Revolution”, “Thread of Life” and “Steel Story”.

  • Module 5 There are four units covered for this exam
  • Module 6 This module is the coursework element, which involves an individual investigation carried out by the students on a topic of their choice.

  • Entry requirements

    Minimum of 5 GCSE passes atA*-C from at least 4 different subjects. B grade in Core and Additional Science, B grade in GCSE Chemistry with a B grade in either Biology or Physics C in English Language and C in Maths
