Hair and Beauty Studies Higher Diploma at Redwood Education and Skills

Course description

The Higher Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies will cover the following topics: Safe and healthy working practices in the hair and beauty sector and related industries; the world of hair and beauty; the science of hair and beauty; communication and client care in the hair and beauty sector; history of hair and beauty in society; promoting and selling products by professional recommendation in the hair and beauty sector; salon business systems and processes; exploring skin care and make-up; exploring hair care and makeup; exploring hair care and styling; exploring hand care and nail art. You will also undertake a project. This course is not just about cutting hair and how to put on makeup. You will be learning about the hair and beauty industry from the working practices, historical influences on styles, through to the business systems used in the hair and beauty industry. You will not only gain some practical skills in hair and beauty but also the purpose of the course is designed for you to learn about how the industry operates so that you gain a range of skills that you could use in any industry setting.

Entry requirements

For the Higher Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies you need to have reached Level 5+ in English, maths and science at the end of Year 9. Pupils in year 10 and year 11 will attend eDEC, post 16 learners' will attend Hammersmith and West London College

Future opportunities

Career Information: Upon completion of the Higher Diploma you may be able to go onto a Level 3 Diploma in Hair and or Beauty therapy, NVQ in Hairdresing or Beauty Therapy, an apprenticeship, employment or further study. A Higher Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies will enable you to move on to study of the Diploma at Advanced Level. It may also allow you to study vocational or a vocationally-related course. You may also progress to AS/A Levels providing you have gained GCSEs in maths and English at A*-C and have chosen a broader subject range as your ASL.
