Course description

This course leads to the award of NVQ Level 3 in Hospitality and Leadership. Your study programme will comprise of your main programme of study, employability skills which includes guest speakers, placement, trips and visits to employers within the region and nationally and also competitions.

This qualification will prepare you for a career within some Hospitality and Catering organisations, but is primarily designed as a progression route on to the foundation degree. The aim of the programme is to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you need for work and learning and also help you achieve your full potential.  NVQ qualifications are intended as a practical 'hands-on' programme with each one taught in the context of real jobs and careers in a chosen vocational sector.  This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.

Within the NVQ Level 3 Hospitality Leadership qualification Students will gain knowledge and expertise including learners being involved in the operation of our fine dining restaurant, which sets high standards of customer service and delivers excellent food to members of the public, food and drink service, advanced planning, running events and stock control.

Achievement of the Professional Cookery NVQ requires students to complete theory based assignments that are directly related to the dishes they will prepare, cook, finish and evaluate.

This qualification will be assessed through practical assessment, multiple choice tests, short answer questions and assignments.

Course content

  • Supervise practices for handling payments
  • Supervise functions
  • Set objectives and provide support for team members
  • Develop working relationships with colleagues
  • Contribute to the control of resources
  • Maintain the health, hygiene, safety and security of the working environment.
  • Lead a team to improve customer service

  • Contribute to the selection of staff for activities

Entry requirements

In order to access the NVQ Level 3 Hospitality Leadership you will require a City and Guilds 706/2, 707/2, 705/2 or NVQ/VRQ Level 2 Food Preparation, Food Service or equivalent, or two years relevant industrial experience in catering.
