Bench Joinery Level 2 Diploma at Bath College

Course description

This course is designed to develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to work in the industry of your chosen craft. Study units will include building materials and construction technology. You will learn how to produce doors, windows, base and wall units and stairs, and how to carry out other joinery-based operations.

Course content

Units include:

  • Manufacture of routine joinery products
  • Mark out from setting out details for routine joinery products
  • Produce setting out details for routine joinery products
  • Set up and operate cutting and shaping machinery
  • Understanding information, quantities and communication with others
  • Practical training exercises include:
  • Manufacturing a staircase
  • Manufacturing a casement window
  • Manufacturing a panelled door
  • Manufacturing a staircase
  • Use of bandsaws, circular saws, chopsaws and electric routers

Entry requirements

  • Two GCSEs at grade D or above, preferably in English and maths
  • Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery


You will be assessed through workshop-based practical assessments and multiple choice end-of-unit knowledge tests.

Future opportunities

You can progress to Bench Joinery Level 3 or to another Level 2 trade orientated qualification.
