Mathematics (Foundation) GCSE at Kendal College
Students will undertake a variety of activities to support the maths journey.
The basic rules of mathematics are taught to the whole class, and support is given & extra classes are provided as and when necessary.
Study at home is essential for consolidation and practice.
The GCSE curriculum at foundation/higher is covered with all knowledge needed to achieve a C+ at GCSE.
Topics will include:
- Number work
- Shape, space and measurement
- Handling data
The course also supports problem solving skills and using geometrical instruments.
The confidence, willingness and ability to learn. It is essential that you already possess a grade D in the subject at GCSE, or an equivalent qualification. You will complete an initial assessment to identify your current skill level. If you haven’t a GCSE D in the subject, the College runs mathematics functional skills workshops, which you could join to develop your skills before moving onto the GCSE.

For the course you will need a Maths geometry set, Scientific Calculator and a GCSE Maths revision guide (Revision guides will be available to purchase during week 1 one of the course).
There will be continuous formative assessment throughout the course and 2 GCSE exams in June 2015. One calculator and one non calculator.
GCSE Maths is one of the core qualifications needed to secure employment and progress to universities.
