Sport Studies (BTEC Level 3 Diploma) at Holte School

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Diploma has a focus on specialist work-related experiences to broaden and expand the learners’ skills. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. It is broadly equivalent to two GCE A Levels.

Course content

Unit 1 - The Principles of Anatomy and Physiology for Sport

Unit 2 - The Physiology of Fitness

Unit 3 - Assessing Risk in Sport

Unit 4 - Fitness Training and Programming

Unit 5 - Sports Coaching

Unit 6 - Sports Development

Unit 7 - Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise

Unit 8 - Practical Team Sport

Unit 9 - Practical Individual Sport

Unit 11 - Sports Nutrition

Unit 17 - Psychology for Sports Performance

Unit 21 - Rules, Regulations and Officiating

Unit 26 - Work Experience in Sport

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s grade A*-C including English and Mathematics.

It is not essential that students have studied BTEC or GCSE PE but it is preferable.


All assessments will internally assessed, and externally verified throughout the two years.

Future opportunities

These include teaching, coaching, leisure centre management, health service, many aspects of the tourism industry, professional sports teams.
