Applied Science BTEC Level 3 at Holy Family Catholic High School

Course description

Science provides the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for a wide range of careers.
It is an interesting subject.
Your chosen career may need a science qualification.
A science qualification is highly valued and respected by potential employers. This course offers aspects of all three science subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and therefore is ideal for anyone who is finding it difficult to decide which to take.

Course content

Over the two years you will study two core units and four specialist units. This includes Fundamentals of Science, Scientific Practical Techniques, Working in the Science Industry and Using Science in the workplace. Depending on the availability of option units, you will then study topics relating to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Medical Science or Forensic Science

Entry requirements

GCSE grade C or above in Additional Applied Science.
Pass or above at BTEC first Diploma in Applied Science.
An APS (average point score) of 37+ is recommended.

Future opportunities

This course offers applied learning related to work and therefore is a route into a number of science based careers including:
Lab work
Medical Science service
Forensic Science service
Industrial Scientists
It also offers a progression route into Universities for those who wish to continue studying.
