Course description

As the third most widely spoken language in the world, a sound knowledge of Spanish enhances career opportunities globally, as well being a valuable life skill. Study at this level gives an insight into the Spanishspeaking world, giving students access to many Latin American countries in addition to Spain.

Success at A Level leads to improved choices at university or in further education, where Spanish can be studied in a surprising range of combinations with other subjects. The unemployment rate amongst language graduates is one of the lowest and they often attract higher salaries in business and industry.

Course content

A Level Course
You will follow a two-year course developing your skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing to a high level. This will enable you to communicate effectively across a broad range of contemporary and historical topics. By the end of the two years, not only will your spoken and written language have vastly improved, but you will also have a much greater insight into the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

You will develop the ability to use the internet as an international resource. There may also be the possibility of participating in a language - focused visit to Spain.

Entry requirements

Students should have a B grade or higher in GCSE Spanish and a genuine interest in the Spanish - speaking world.

Paper 1 Listening, reading & translation 40%
Paper 2 Written response to works and translation 30%
Paper 3 Speaking 30%
