Further Mathematics at Chislehurst School for Girls

Course description

Further Mathematics extends the study of this subject even further than that of the A-Level course, in both the depth and breadth of study. This course will ease the transition to Mathematicsrelated university courses and will support the student‟s study at A-Level.

Course content

This programme consists of one Further Pure Mathematics unit (FP1) and two Applied units (usually Statistics 1 and one at Decision 2/ Statistics 2/Mechanics 2).


Further Pure - extends the understanding of the pure Mathematics topics.


Statistics 1 This deals with analysing and summarising numerical data in order to arrive at conclusions about it.


Statistics 2/Decision 2/Mechanics 2 - extends the data topics studied in their respective Level 1 Unit.


This course can be delivered in a number of ways depending on the needs of the students. This includes distance learning through the Internet with support from a tutor, small group teaching with students from other schools, or as a course at Beaverwood. All staff will be experienced in teaching Further Mathematics.

Entry requirements

Minimum of A Grade at GCSE Mathematics


All units will be examined and there is no coursework.

Future opportunities

This qualification is highly sought-after and can increase an individual‟s success at university in Mathematics-based subjects like Engineering, Sciences, Economics etc. It will also differentiate students from others who have only studied ALevel Mathematics.
