Module F291: An Introduction to Business
This unit is worth 40% of the AS level course and 20% of the A level. The question paper consists of short answer and data response questions. Candidates answer six questions in total. The unit provides candidates with an awareness of the external business environment. In particular, candidates consider the extent to which the business environment provides opportunities for, and imposes constraints on, the pursuit of short-term and long-term objectives.
Module F292: Business FunctionsThis unit is worth 60% of the AS level course and 30% of the A level. The question paper has two sections: In Section A candidates are required to answer one six part question. In Section B Candidates are required to answer all four questions based on pre-release case study stimulus material. This unit builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in F291.
Candidates will develop an awareness of the inter-relationships that exist between each of the four main behavioural functions of business: accounts, people, production and marketing.
The A2 level course consists of two modules, one examined in January and one in June. In both exams there is a case study to develop the student’s ability to apply their knowledge to business situations. The A2 course focuses on developing analytical and evaluative skills through class discussions and essay writing.
F293 Marketing: This unit is worth 20% of the A2 level. It is assessed through a two hour examination with six questions based on case study stimulus material. Candidates will be introduced to specific issues relating to marketing aspects of business not covered at AS. These include market research methods, pricing strategies, promotional ideas, marketing laws, market segmentation and marketing strategies.
F297 Strategic Management: This unit is worth 30% of the A2 level. It is assessed through a two hour examination with six questions based on a pre released case study. Candidates will develop an awareness of business strategy, its nature, development and implementation. Candidates will be expected to develop and demonstrate an integrated understanding of the subject and will learn to approach situations from the perspective of different stakeholders.
