Applied Science (Medical Science) BTEC Level 3 at St Michael's Church of England High School

Course description

This is a level 3 course (equivalent in UCAS points to one A Level) for those who are interested in Medical Science and would like to study a Vocational Science course. Studying Applied Science will give you an insight into how science is applied to many professions. This course will combine well with other A-levels, such as, Health and Social Care and Sports Science to lead to careers in nursing, sport science and paramedic work.

Course content

In the first year, you will study Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry and Scientific Practical Techniques. In the second year, you will study Physiology of Human Body Systems and Regulation, Genetics and Genetic Engineering.

Entry requirements

Grade C/C in either Dual Science or separate sciences or a Distinction in BTEC Science.

Coursework – Unit 1 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 2 Certificate (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 3 Certificate (33.3%)

BTEC: 
Coursework – Unit 4 BTEC (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 5 BTEC (33.3%)
Coursework – Unit 6 BTEC (33.3%)

All assessment is via coursework which will be externally moderated following the EDEXCEL specification.

The course is especially suitable if you are considering careers in areas, such as, nursing, midwifery, sports science, physiotherapy, paramedic work, teaching, laboratory work and environmental science.
