Barbering Apprenticeship (Level 2 Intermediate and Level 3 Advanced) at Blackburn College

Course description

Do you want to work in an exciting and stimulating industry? Do you have artistic skill and flair? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then a barbering apprenticeship is the pathway for you. Your personality should be vibrant, strong and interesting. Barbering is an amazing industry that will be here forever and the apprenticeship will give you skills that will never go away.

If you are aged 16-24, and you don't think you have the necessary 'work-ready' skills, we also offer Traineeships. Our 8 week courses provide the essential work preparation training, English, maths and work experience needed to secure your place on an Apprenticeship.

Course content

What will I study?

  • Provide client consultation services
  • Provide shaving services
  • Design and create a range of facial hair shapes
  • Creatively cut hair using a combination of barbering techniques
  • Design and create patterns in hair
  • Colour and lighten men’s hair
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements to study an Apprenticeship at Blackburn College. You will have an initial assessment when you come in for an interview, and this will show the level of English and maths qualifications, known as functional skills, that you will study alongside your apprenticeship.

Blackburn College will work with applicants to help find a suitable employer where possible. However we always advise anyone looking to undertake an apprenticeship to be actively seeking employment for themselves too.

Assessment

You will be assessed in one or more of the following ways:

  • Course work
  • Exams
  • Oral questioning
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical demonstration
  • Practical examination
  • Written examination

Future opportunities

Once you have completed the Level 2 Apprenticeship, you will be equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications to be able to work within the Barbering industry. You can also progress onto the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship to become a truly proficient professional.
