Plastering Level 3 Diploma at Wirral Metropolitan College

Course description

The Plastering Level 3 Diploma is designed to further develop the skills and knowledge of people, enabling them to work to an advanced level in the industry in their chosen craft.

It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the test(s) are based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual through the completion of all the requirement of the qualification.

Course content

Level 3 Diploma Units

  • Unit 201: Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Unit 301: Principles of organizing, planning and pricing construction work
  • Unit 311: Running in-situ moulds
  • Unit 312: Applying plastering materials to detailed interiors
  • Unit 313: Applying plastering materials to detailed exteriors

Entry requirements

Completion of the Level 2 Diploma. To successfully complete the course the students have to pass an externally marked examination at Level 3.

Action planning - You will work with your tutors to plan your learning programme but will be expected to work independently.

Information Technology - You will need an understanding of word processing to Keyskills Level 1. Manual dexterity and physical stamina - You will need the physical fitness and stamina to handle tools and materials. You will need to be able to work at heights and to work for long periods of time.

Communication skills - You will need the ability to communicate one to one and in a group. You will also need the skills for communicating with managers and other firms and the ability to learn the necessary skills for supervisory projects: managing people and time.

Literacy - Reading: Much of the course material is presented in work books. Students need an ability to read and understand these books. You will already know much of the technical language used but this will be developed. Writing: Students will need to produce written assignments. It is therefore recommended that students have a minimum of Level 2 in Literacy.

Numeracy - You need to be able to use the four rules of number and be able to read drawings and calculate materials and quantities. It is therefore recommended that students have a minimum of Level 2 in Numeracy.

Before starting your course, you will take assessments in literacy and numeracy to make sure that you are working at the right level.

Assessment

Assessment is by examination.

Future opportunities

NVQ Level 2/3 Plastering (if you gain employment). BTEC National/Higher National Certificate Construction.

Study programmes are full-time courses for 16-18 year olds which include:

  • A qualification such as BTEC Extended Diploma
  • Meaningful work experience or preparation for work
  • English and maths, if you don't already have GCSE grade A*-C in English and maths already
  • Non-study activities such as tutorials, voluntary work, fund-raising/charity work, sport or trips
