Travel & Tourism (City & Guilds) Diploma at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

If you would like to embark on a career in the travel industry, from selling holidays, to promoting and advertising them, then the Level 1 Diploma in Travel & Tourism is the ideal course to start on.

You will get to grips with the basics of the industry and learn how to apply your knowledge of the sector to various avenues of work, such as retail, customer service and health and safety operations.

Completion of this will allow you to pass to a Level 2 course and further increase your prospects.

Course content

During the course you will study:

- Customer Service,
- Retail Travel,
- Health and Safety in a Travel and Tourism context,
- Tourism Destinations,
- Work Place Communications.

Entry requirements

2 GCSE grades at E/2 or above. Progression from an entry Level 3 certificate or above. You will need to have a suitable reference and undertake a successful interview.

Assessment

To pass this course you will be assessed via practical assignments, course work and some units have online exams, all assessments are set by City and Guilds to a national standard.

Future opportunities

If you are successful on this course, you will be able to continue studying towards Level 2 in Travel and Tourism.

Further information

You will need to dress smartly and wear an appropriate uniform. Good punctuality, full attendance and organisational skills will be required. You will be expected to attend study visits throughout the year.

There will be an additional cost of £110 to cover the cost of study visits. You will also be required to purchase a uniform, details of which will be given upon successful completion of the welcome day.

Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.

If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.
