Course description

Do you aspire to pursue a career within the education, health or care sector?

Whether you are looking for a career as a nursery assistant, nursery officer, early year’s practitioner, nurse, social worker, support worker, health care professional or work in the allied health professions then we have the programme of study for you. We offer nationally recognised qualifications which meet the needs of students, employers and the industry.

Our excellent work placement opportunities provide you with first-hand experience of working in the sector, allow you to apply theory to practice and gain an insight into the work roles available. Opportunities include organisations such as The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, care and residential homes, day nurseries, pre-schools, infant schools, special schools, voluntary organisations and child-minders.

Our highly skilled and experienced tutors and links with employers will ensure you are supported to achieve your career goals, are work ready and well prepared to join the workforce or progress onto further study.

A very high percentage of our students progress into employment within the sector and also to Higher Education degrees including nursing, social work, early years teaching, allied health professions and foundation degrees.

Course content

This course is aimed at introducing you to the basic skills and knowledge of working in the health and social care sector. You will develop a range of skills essential to employment in a supervised role, such as a carer, support worker or personal assistant, with the potential to lead to degree careers such as nursing or midwifery.

•You will gain a wider understanding of local services and the health environment

•You will show an understanding of person centred care and safeguarding issues

•Using our links with the local teaching hospitals, you may have the opportunity to go into the sector to gain vital experience

•You will be encouraged to undertake a volunteer placement to practice and improve on your employability skills

Entry requirements

•You must demonstrate a genuine interest in health and social care and have two positive written references

•Clear DBS check

•Successful interview with a course leader

Assessment

•Through project and assignment based assessments

•This will include individual and team or group projects

•You should also expect to be providing evidence of competence via video and photographs

Future opportunities

•After completing this course you may be able to progress onto the Level 2 Health and Social Care course to further develop your skills and knowledge of this sector

•Other possibilities for progression are Childcare Level 2 or Land-based Industries Level 2
