Beauty Therapy City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate at Guildford College

Course description

This course is designed for those wishing to start out in Beauty Therapy and for those who have already completed a Level 1 qualification in Beauty or who have some experience of the industry. 

All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.


Course content

Topics: working in the industry, following health and safety practices in the salon, client care and communication in beauty related industries, provide facial skin care, manicure and pedicure.

Entry requirements

Ideally you should have achieved a Level 1 Beauty qualification and achieved at least two GCSEs at grade C or above, including Maths and English at grade D-E, or equivalent. 

Alternatively, you must have some experience of the industry and be wanting to gain a qualification to validate your learning.


The course is theory and practically based with online tests and practical assessment work in each unit.

Financial information

You should allow for the following additional costs: uniform, equipment, essential book list (to be advised), files and resources at a cost of approximately £520.

An education visit cost is included in this fee.

Future opportunities

You could progress on to a Level 3 qualification in Beauty or work in salons, department stores, hotels or health spas.
