Physical Education A Level at Kesteven and Sleaford High School Selective Academy

Course description

Sport and Physical Education provides a course of study that expands on many of the ideas and concepts
already encountered during Key Stage 4 courses based on the National Curriculum. It also provides a natural
progression for candidates who have additionally studied GCSE Physical Education by extending their
knowledge of skills, techniques and effective performance.
The modules cover: th
e effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle Unit 1: Opportunities for
Unit 1 : Opportunities for and the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle.
Unit 2 : Analysis and evaluation of physical activity as a performer and/or in an adopted role.
Unit 3: Optimising performance and evaluating contemporary issues within sport.
Unit 4: Optimising practical performance in a competition situation.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for entry to the Sixth form is 5 GCSEs at Grades A* to C including English and
Mathematics. GCSE PE is not an essential requirement but if students have taken it they must have achieved
a grade B or above.
The Science content is significant in this course, so students preferably require B grades in Science.
Students must have an interest in at least one sport and participate outside of school in any of the roles:
performer, coach, official.
