Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate at Sydenham School - Sydenham and Forest Hill Sixth Form

Course description

We offer a two year Level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science.

This provides an opportunity for learners of 16-19 to learn transferable skills and gain a recognized qualification within the science sector.

This course is ideal for anyone who has a keen interest in science and offers a more practical, real world approach to study.

This course provides learners with a minimum of 360 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

Course content

Learners will complete 4 units in total, 3 of which are mandatory units.

Mandatory Units

  1. Principles and Applications of Science I (90 GLH)
  2. Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques (90 GLH)
  3. Science Investigation Skills (120 GLH)

1 Optional Unit  (60 GLH)

Entry requirements

Grade C in GCSE Science and preferably grade 4 in GCSE English and Maths (3 may be accepted) or an equivalent qualification such as a BTEC First Certificate or a related subject such as Applied Science.

Minimum point score of 38 including Maths and English at grade 4 at GCSE. This is equivalent to 4B and 4C grades overall at GCSE. Students will also need to achieve the subject specific criteria below:
