Accounting A Level at Havant Sixth form College
If you enjoy working with numbers and solving problems, Accounting could be for you. This course looks at how a business records its financial transactions and how this information can be used to understand past performance and manage the business effectively. It’s an ideal preparation for studying accounting or business at university and a future career in accountancy, management or running your own business.
You’ll learn the double entry system to trial balance and how to prepare a profit and loss account and a balance sheet for different types of businesses including sole traders and companies. You’ll also learn how to analyse business performance using accounting ratios and explore the different ways in which businesses are funded. You’ll discover how accounting skills and techniques, such as product costing, budgeting, breakeven analysis and investment appraisal, are used to manage a business.
The entry requirements to an A Level programme is five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language and Mathematics.
All modules are assessed by exam.
Many of our students go on to study accountancy or actuarial science at university either on its own, or in combination with other subjects such as: finance, business, economics or management. We also have students who successfully go into employment in accountancy firms as an apprentice or on company training schemes.
You’ll have the opportunity to hear visiting speakers from universities and the accounting profession and meet with ex-students and employers from accounting firms.
