Hospitality (BTEC Level 3) at New College Swindon
Hospitality is very important to the modern workforce, yet there is a shortage of skilled workers. The BTEC Level 3 Diploma is a specialist work-related qualification which will provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding that you need for future employment or further study in higher education. You can choose to study the first year only and receive a subsidiary diploma rather than the full diploma that takes two years.
You will study a range of core mandatory units and specialist units. These include: Human resources, financial control, front office operations, E-business, event organisation, marketing, customer service etc. In all units the emphasis is on the practical application of knowledge and skills.
You should have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English Language. A BTEC First Diploma in hospitality (Merit) or related qualifications will also be considered. Personal commitment, enthusiasm and problem solving skills are essential.
Assessment is by an interesting variety of coursework, practical, projects, assignments and examinations.
Successful completion of the course could lead to higher education for an HNC/HND, foundation degree or degree, to employment or an apprenticeship in the hospitality industry. Suitable areas of employment include working in Hotels, conference centres, contract catering organisations, entertainment or event venues etc, in roles such as administration, human resources, reception services, accommodation services etc.
