Art and Design: Fine Art A level at Sir Bernard Lovell School
The specification encourages students to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of drawing, painting, print making, sculpture and new media. In addition, the course encourages students to gain an understanding of a range of relevant images, artefacts and resources relating to art and design from the past and from recent times, including European and non-European examples.
The course begins with a series of workshops to develop core skills. Subsequently, students work to develop their own response to a given theme. Students will use sketchbooks throughout the course as a place to explore ideas, experiment with materials and document their progress. During the course students will be assessed on their ability to develop ideas, experiment with materials, make personal observations and produce final outcomes.
AS level Art and Design (Fine Art) is the appropriate qualification for progression onto the A2 Fine Art course. A2 level Art and Design (Fine Art) is accepted as an appropriate qualification for entry onto the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Some students do choose to apply direct to university degree courses from A2, although for art and design subjects many universities ask for students to complete the Foundation Diploma course first.
