Vehicle Maintenance and Repair IMI Level 3 Diploma at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

This course will appeal to anyone interested in a career in advanced light vehicle maintenance and repair. It is also suitable for those employed in the industry but who do not have a formal technical qualification to help them move on in their career.

Course content

Candidates will study a range of topics including; Electrical and engine systems, chassis and transmission systems. They will also study; Health & Safety in the workplace. Diagnosing & rectifying light vehicle engine and component faults, chassis system faults, auxiliary equipment and electrical faults. Maintaining hybrid electric vehicle systems and low carbon fuel technologies.

Entry requirements

You will need an IMI level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair and a minimum of GCSE grades A*- D or Functional Skills Level 2 in English, Maths and science.

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed through a combination of practical tasks in the motor vehicle workshop, written and online exams for all units studied, set written assignment (coursework).

Financial information

Whilst every attempt is made to keep the costs to the candidate to a minimum, the college reserves the right to charge candidates amounts over and above published fees in response to any additional charges from the awarding body. You will need to purchase the department uniform, protective boots and course books. You will also have to pay for some trips and visits.

Future opportunities

Candidates who successfully complete this course could progress on to a Level 4 Motor Vehicle qualification. You can also progress to a range of jobs in the garage environment including workshop controllers, service advisers, service managers and can train as MOT testers.
