Site Carpentry Diploma Level 2 at City College

Course description

The Diploma level 2 course is for those who have already been successful in achieving a Level 1 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery, or who are able to demonstrate considerable experience of Carpentry & Joinery skills prior to joining the course. Achievement of this course will enable learner to more towards employment in the carpentry & joinery trade and to NVQ training.

Course content

This course is designed to give you a more advanced level of carpentry and joinery skills in the assembly and fixing of joinery components. You will study a number of units, including:- health and safety; setting out timber to produce joinery items; producing cutting lists; forming timber joints; erection of tower scaffolds; hanging doors; fixing skirting board; boxing in pipes; erection of roof trusses; and laying floor boarding. You will also study Key Skills; Application of Number and Communication.

Will contain TWO elements:
Diploma Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery
Communication Key Skills 
This is an intensive vocational course which involves both practical and theory/background knowledge elements, covering the following subject areas/units:

Entry requirements

As a guide, learners should be able to work at a level equivalent to GCSE Mathematics and English at Grades A-E. All learners must pass an assessment test as part of an interview, and will have already achieved a Foundation Construction Award or City & Guilds 6217 prior to joining this course. To successfully complete the full qualification it is necessary for you to achieve 90% attendance.


A variety of methods will be used, which may include multiple choice tests, and your building a portfolio of coursework. . All elements must be successfully achieved in order to gain full certification.

Financial information

All students pay a non-refundable Administration Fee of £10.00 regardless of status. The course fee is £690.00, plus Admin Fee. Equipment and materials are provided free of charge, however, should you wish to pursue your learning in more depth, you may be advised to purchase one or more text books from a recommended reading list.

Future opportunities

After you have successfully completed this programme of study you might wish to progress onto the Diploma Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery; and/or seek employment as a Carpentry & Joinery Apprentice or Trainee with an employer. Staff at College will help you decide what is best for you.
