Extended Project at Blessed George Napier School
Extended Project is offered at BGN to fulfil our statutory obligation to provide General Religious Education in the 6th Form.
The Extended Project is a Level 3 Qualification aimed at challenging and extending pupils. Pupils produce one lengthy written dissertation on a religious or moral topic of their choice. The Extended Project is a 100% Coursework qualification and students are assessed in four main areas:
AO1 – Management – the ability to plan and manage the project, meet deadlines, and overcome difficulties with the project. (17%)
AO1 – Use of Resources – the ability to identify and synthesize source materials, to evaluate their appropriateness, and to record them accurately in a Bibliography. (22%)
AO3 – Development and Realisation – the ability to analyse source materials with reference to a key question in order to reach a conclusion. (44%)
AO4 – Evaluation and Presentation – the ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the project, and to present the overall project to a panel. (17%)
Lessons are a combination of class teaching, independent work and one-to-one tutorials. Students develop academic skills such as research and critical analysis appropriate for further academic study, and personal skills such as personal management and evaluation which will have value in a wider context. There is limited scope for students involved in creative subjects such as Art, Music, Product Design or Drama to produce an artistic piece. This will need to be agreed between students and individual subject tutors.
Extended Project is compulsory for all 6th Form students.
