PHYSICS at Steyning Grammar School

Course description

Physics is a fast, exciting and dynamic developing subject which is driving many of the changes we are benefiting from in the modern world. It provides an important base for a wide range of further study and careers in Research , Engineering, Architecture, Medical Physics, Finance, Computing to name a few.

Year 1 (AS) cover three units

  • Mechanics looks at motion, forces and energy
  • Electrons, waves and photons concentrates on electricity, waves and quantum physics.
  • Practical skills concentrates on experimental and analytical research skills

    Year 2 (A2) also consists of three units

  • The Newtonian World looks at Newton’s laws, oscillations and thermal physics
  • Fields, Particles and Frontiers of physics considers electric and magnetic fields, nuclear physics and medical imaging
  • Practical skills again concentrates on experimental and analytical research skills.

  • Entry requirements

    For YEAR ONE - B grade in Additional GCSE Science or Physics and a B in GCSE MathsFor YEAR TWO - pass at AS level.
