Technical & Professional Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at Bedford College

Course description

By following the ‘Construction Contracting Operations’ pathway of this Apprenticeship you will develop the skills, knowledge and competence required to carry out the duties of a construction site technician in the workplace. This programme is designed to cover the skills and knowledge of a wide variety of construction site duties, such as estimating, buying, planning and technical support. This Apprenticeship will take up to two years to complete, and you will normally be required to attend College for one day per week.

Course content

As part of the College-based technical certificate you will study a range of topics, such as:

  • Construction and the environment
  • Mathematics in construction
  • Science and materials
  • Construction technology and design.

 

During the course you will study to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Construction and the Built Environment BTEC Level 3 Diploma
  • Construction Contracting Operations ConstructionSkills Level 3 Diploma
  • Maths Functional Skills Level 2 (if required)
  • English Functional Skills Level 2 (if required)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities.

Entry requirements

To begin this course you must be employed full-time in a relevant job role. You must also have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade A*-C (including Maths and Science), or a ConstructionSkills Level 2 Diploma in a construction trade.

Assessment

Assessment will take place in the workplace, through observation and the completion of a portfolio.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you can undertake a Foundation Degree in a related subject, or seek further employment in the construction industry.

Further information

The College-based training will involve several projects relating to site experiences, which will cover the full range of work carried by site personnel. There will be a strong focus on building regulations, and the roles of various members of the design and construction team will also be considered.
