Welding and Fabrication Advanced Apprenticeship at Colchester Institute

Course description

The Welding and Fabrication Advanced Apprenticeship course is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful crafts person in the welding and fabrication industries. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 3 diploma in Welding and Fabrication.

Performing Engineering Operations training gained during the level 2 Apprenticeship will provide a foundation to your Advanced Apprenticeship.

The choice of two pathways:

  • Sheet Metal
  • Welding

The VCQ (NVQ) Level 3 will relate to your specific trade.

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English and maths, plus ICT.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have successfully completed a relevant level 2 qualification and be suitably employed within the engineering industry. Applicants will be required to attend an interview where they will also be required to sit a paper based trade test and basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Candidates should also have 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science.

Future opportunities

Career pathways may include progression into other industry occupations, including supervisory and management roles within
engineering construction, including project management.

Possible progression to higher education programmes.
