Applied Science at The Beaconsfield School

Course description

This BTEC subsidiary diploma in applied science (forensic science) is a two year course and is equivalent to an A level. This is a vocational qualification that focuses on applied science and reflects aspects of employment within science organisations or organisations that use science.Students will have the opportunity to specialise in forensic science looking at how science evidence is collected and analysed.

They will also look at chemical techniques used to analyse compounds and how science is used in the medical industry for treatment of cancer and the use of radiopharmaceuticals. The last unit looks at the way theories to do with science develop and the public’s perception of scientific development.

Entry requirements

At least 5 A*- C grades at GCSE including English and Maths. At least a C grade in GCSE science or a merit in Level 2 BTEC in science is required.
