Course description

This course gives you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to work as a Personal Assistant or in an administrative position. However, developing good organisational skills together with the ability to arrange and support meetings and to organise business events also offers you other career paths where these skills can be used effectively.Other units include written communication, where you will practise how to compose a variety of documents needed in an office like reports, agendas, minutes, forms, emails and questionnaires. The final of the 5 assessed units is where you have the chance to work together in a team to organise a variety of events – which is often the unit where students have the most fun.As well as these 5 units, which are assessed by tutors prior to being sent off for verification by OCR, there are 4 examined units which include text production and audio transcription – both essential skills needed in every office. The final 2 units are word processing and business presentations.Successful completion of this course not only gains you the overall qualification but also several separate ones, which are sought by employers. You will be in college for 4 full working days and will have the opportunity to participate in a two weeks work experience placement in February giving you the chance to put into practice the skills you have learnt on the course so far. Following work experience employers have from time to time offered students part-time or even full-time employment in their organisations.Tutors will assist you with the learning and understanding of the subject, facilitate and encourage discussion and provide regular feedback on your progress. During the course tutors will promote attitudes such as having a flexible and adaptable approach to work, using your own initiative and being tactful and discreet especially when dealing with confidential information.
