Business - BTEC Diploma - Level 3 at Westhoughton High School

Course description

Learning should be fun, not daunting. In our experience, students enjoy the BTEC Business programme because they can specialise in areas of learning linked with business that they are particularly interested in. The course is designed to be adaptable to students’ needs, abilities and career aspirations: It consists of four compulsory core units plus a choice of eight specialist units. All students will study The Business Environment, Business Resouces, Introduction to Marketing and Business Communication. Then, depending on the particular interests of your group, 8 optional units will be completed over the 2 years of study including Human Resouces, Marketing, Law, Administration, Retail, Accountancy, Business Management, International Business and the External Environment. A wide variety of teaching methods are used ranging from Independent research, Group work, Presentations, Role plays, Meetings, Discussion work and much more. Students build their confidence because they are developing practical skills that will help them secure a job in the future. Progress is measured throughout the course, allowing the student to gauge their own performance on a continuing basis, just like in a real workplace. Students are more engaged and motivated as a result, as they can see their own progress through the course rather than waiting to the end to sit an exam.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C GCSE. It is not necessary to have studied Business before. However, students will need be confident in both literacy and numeracy.

This exciting course will appeal to many people who are interested in a business-related career or who want to gain skills and knowledge that they can apply in a wide range of careers. With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, students can progress straight into employment. The BTEC National Diploma in Business can also open up further areas of study to students. It is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.Students will develop a wide variety of different personal skills whilst on this programme of study ranging from team work, creativity, organisational skills, thet will develop their ability to work effectively and independently. They will also develop analytical and evaluative skills that they will use throughout the course.
