Design & Technology (Food, nutrition, and health) A Level at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School

Course description

The course allows you to develop knowledge skills and understanding of human needs and management of resources in an ever changing society. The course will be taught through an investigative approach that will require students to develop innovative, creative, original ideas. There will be plenty of opportunity for practical work.

Course content

AS Unit 1 - Society and Health - population trends, family and society, key issues for society, environmental issues and health.

AS Unit 2 - Resources - management of resources, food provision, selection and purchase of food and household goods. Food preparation and cooking equipment, food safety and hygiene.

A2 Unit 3 - Nutrition and Food Production - nutrients and energy, dietary needs of identified groups, properties of food, design, development and production of food, food industry.

Assessment

AS : Unit 1: One hour 30 minute paper. Unit 2: One hour 30 minute paper. For the final A2 grade 50% of the final AS mark will be taken forward to add to the A2 mark.

A2 : Unit 3: One hour 30 minute paper. Unit 4: Investigation Written communication will be tested in all units.
