Course description

If you like to cook, work as part of team and want to learn all the skills needed for a successful career in catering, then this Catering Apprenticeship is for you. We have a number of opportunities available NOW in many parts of the country, working in restaurants, cafes, clubs, schools and more.

Catering Apprenticeships with esg are full time jobs with training towards recognised vocational qualifications, so you learn the skills as you do go along. You will be employed from day one and receive a real wage, so there's no need to get into debt at college because you are getting paid to study.

Apprenticeship features

Our catering Apprenticeships are available at Intermediate and Advanced levels depending on your age and ability and include an NVQ certificate or diploma, technical qualifications in catering and essential qualifications in maths and English to support your ongoing development. You will be guided by our professional assessors every step of the way who provide one-to-one support and guidance throughout your programme.

What skills will I learn?

What you learn as an apprentice will depend on your role and the type of business, but this can include:

  • Preparing and cooking a variety of menu items
  • Presenting menu items according to a defined brand standard
  • Using a variety of cooking techniques and methods
  • Developing culinary skills and knowledge
  • Maintaining food safety when storing, preparing and cooking food
  • Working effectively as part of a hospitality team

Where can it lead?

With an Apprenticeship in Catering you could find yourself working as chef, cook, catering manager, head waiter or waitress, and more. You can further progress to advanced, higher or even degree level training. As you gain more experience and responsibility you may naturally become a team leader or manager.
