Aeronautical Engineering L3 Extended Diploma at Solihull College & University Centre

Course description

This course uniquely follows on from the BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Engineering (with completed aeronautical units) to provide an extra year of teaching for those of you who wish to bolster your credentials by completing a two-year programme, equivalent to three A-Levels. This will improve your chances of employment, working as aeronautical engineers/technicians and/or progression to our HND programme and/or a university degree course.

Entry requirements

The possession of the 90 Credit Diploma in Engineering (Aeronautical Stream) delivered at the College at an overall average of Merit or Distinction grade - together with 90%+ attendance and punctuality. Further, an excellent Solihull College internal reference from your Personal Tutor and a successful selection interview.


Assessment is by course work and practical assignments.

Future opportunities

You can progress to a modern apprenticeship, HM Forces, Higher Education (HND at Solihull College) and/or a university degree course.

Further information

You will need safety boots and long-sleeved overalls (approx. £30) plus paper, a folder, pens, ruler and a scientific calculator.

    • Woodlands Campus

      An £8.5 million expansion of our Woodlands Campus now incorporates a new state of the art specialist centre for multi-craft, bricklaying, painting and decorating, plastering, carpentry and an expanded motor vehicle training facility. A new sports pitch also enhances the existing sports facilities.

      The new Engineering and Construction facility houses twelve new workshops; six for construction and six for motor vehicle. The rooms accommodate an MOT/motor sport workshop; an engine workshop and further rooms for decorating, plastering and brickwork.

      Woodlands has purpose-built engineering workshops as well as commercial-standard hair and beauty salons. Our IT facilities, learning resource centres and library are also first-rate.

      We also offer a selection of higher education courses at our Woodlands Campus so you can continue your studies with us.

      Via Bus or Train

      The main bus terminal in north Solihull is located in Chelmsley Wood centre. The number 94, 676, 694, 71, 966 and 966A stop at the main terminal with the number 94 stopping on Auckland Drive. The nearest train stations are Marston Green or Water Orton station both located approximately 20 minutes away.

      The College has free car parking facilities on-site.
