Electrical Installations Diploma Level 1 at PETROC

Course description

If a career in the electrical industry - or other industries that rely on electrical installation skills is what you want, this study programme is a great place to start. The content of the programme is based around electrical construction and is ideal for you if you would like to work in the industry but do not have an apprenticeship.

Course content

Units include Health and Safety, Environmental Protection Measures, Installation Methods and Procedures, Craft Skills and Science. You will also learn how to prepare for an interview and manage your study skills.

Progress through the qualification is assessed through a combination of practical assessments and written exams. All aspects of the programme will be studied through both
classroom-based theory sessions and practical-based workshop sessions.

Your study programme will include tutorial sessions and work experience. You will also study Maths and English if a GCSE at grade C or above has not previously been achieved in these subjects.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade E or above, or equivalent, to include a grade D or above in Maths and English.

Financial information

Q. Is there any equipment needed to participate on this course?
A. Safety clothing including boots and overalls need to be purchased by the student. Students are also required to provide their own stationery and textbooks, a full equipment list will be provided at interview.

Q. Are there any costs for this course?
A. Students are asked to pay a contribution towards materials and learning resources used in workshops and classrooms. There may also be trips throughout the year which may incur a cost.  Financial support may be available, if you require further information contact the guidance centre on 01884 235330

Future opportunities

Passing this qualification is a stepping-stone to the Level 2 and 3 Electrical Installation study programmes. You could also choose to progress to an apprenticeship or other courses within the architecture and construction field.
