GCE AS Music (1 st 3 units);

GCE A level Music ( 6 units )


Course content

This course requires some instrumental study, and learning some compositional techniques. You will study a topic on musical understanding which includes listening, chords and study of some set works.

Entry requirements

GCSE Music: B Grade; Grade 4 standard on any instrument; Grade 3 standard music theory


You will do a 5-6 minute solo or ensemble performance; a 3 minute composition; a 2hour exam which includes a) listening, b) set works and c) understanding of chords and musical lines.

Future opportunities

Music A level can lead on to further study at a university or specialist conservatoire and on to a wide range of professional occupations including performance, composition, arts administration, librarianship, teaching and music therapy. Music A level is also a highly regarded supporting subject for further study in other academic and scientific disciplines.
