Music Technology (Production) Level 3 BTEC at Oak Academy

Course description

The music department is keen to provide all students with a Level 3 music qualification if this is where there interest lies.
We teach music to GCSE standard which provides the necessary skills to start the Level 3 course but it is possible to start this course where a student is a keen musician outside the Academy.
This includes performing on an instrument or having a home studio.
The department provides additional opportunities to do industry-type work such as pub gigs, rock events and so on so that musical experience may be extended, whatever it is. The two department teachers support and help with work and technological skills wherever this is needed.
The course is taught over 2 years and consists of 6 units two of which are production units featuring the skills needed in multitrack recording.
It is a practical course (1 unit is centred on essays and the writing of articles) and the work is evidenced through diaries, images and recordings.
The Music Technology (Production) course is a vocational course that could lead directly to a music technology degree, a job in the recording or commercial parts of the music industry.
