Food Technology AS/A2 Level at Chichester High School for Girls

Course description

AS Year:

Students will study all areas of food. An interest in bothpractical and theory work is essential.

Students will learnabout food science and nutrition; topical food issues will bediscussed.

Consideration of decisions and the moralimplications along with the effect on society, theenvironment and sustainability will be looked at. Studentswill work through the design process to develop an excitingand innovative product that wiII meet the needs of theiruser. Consideration will be given to safety, hygiene, storageand legal requirements. The assessment of the controlledassessment is based on 50% designing and 50% making.

 

A2 Year:

Students will build on their knowledge gained atAS.

Students will continue to gain more detailed knowledge forthe exam as well as designing and making a new product fortheir controlled assessment.

AS Year:

Unit 1:Materials and Components (Exam)

Unit 2:Learning through designing and making(ControlledAssessment).

 

A2 YEAR:

Unit 3:Design and Manufacture (Exam)

Unit 4:Design and Making Practice(ControlledAssessment)

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above with a grade B in FoodTechnology or a passion for food with the ability to cook.

Assessment

Two exams and Two controlled assessments.
