Psychology A Level at Lawnswood School
Psychology AQA Specification A provides an introduction to the scientific study of the brain and behaviour. Students explore theories / explanations of common behaviours that affect all of us e.g. how memory works, the importance of early experience, stress and mental health.
Students look at gender and aggression as well as schizophrenia. Research Methods is a common theme throughout the course. The course allows students the opportunity to develop essential knowledge and understanding of psychological approaches and methods, applying a range of skills including discussion and analysis of the validity of theories and research evidence.
Pupils develop knowledge of key psychological and behavioural processes. Students will be encouraged to improve their own understanding by applying what they are studying to their own experience as human beings.

In year 2 candidates will continue to focus on key topics within the subject but they should demonstrate a wider range of in depth knowledge and understanding and use highly developed skills of application, analysis, interpretation and evaluation.

To study Psychology at A level you will need grade 5+ in GCSE English and 6+ in Mathematics and Science
Students are encouraged to purchase one main course textbook and the school will provide an additional textbook for a small deposit.
They are expected to provide their own stationery
Psychology is a well-respected academic discipline which promotes progression to higher education/ careers. Previous students have gone into careers in clinical psychology, counselling, teaching, international development, law, politics and a wide range of degree subjects, including mathematics, law, criminology, sports science, social policy and many others.
