The Creative Arts curriculum area offers an innovative, forward thinking and of course, creative curriculum that not only serves to provide students with quality artistic, musical and performance learning, but also through the unique ‘Creativity’ lesson, an opportunity to learn and to apply Creative skills that are transferable across school and ultimately in the workplace.
Students benefit from purpose built, well-resourced classrooms and working areas. All classrooms have interactive whiteboard facilities. There are 2 large art rooms which include a dark room and kiln, a large drama room, two music rooms (1 with a suite of industry standard Music ICT facilities), a dance / drama studio, 1 general purpose classroom and a suite of 5 practice rooms.
The general entry requirement is 5 A* - C full GCSE/BTEC courses, including English Language and Mathematics at grade C or higher.
BTEC qualifications will only count as 1 GCSE. If more than 1 BTEC (level 2) is studied, only the best will count towards the overall points score. GCSE short courses will not be counted.
The curriculum area has again gained the ‘Artsmark’ award in recognition of the quality, quantity and breadth of opportunities that are offered and accessed, both in and out of the classroom environment.
Strong Links exist with local primary schools through arts projects and performances as well as local residential homes, local Universities, the Baltic, North Tyneside Council, NewRiver Retail Ltd and many other community areas. Through these different opportunities students have performed and exhibited in many different venues including the Sage Gateshead, The Baltic, The Customs House, St. James’ Park and Northumbria University.
