Spanish A level at Park View Community School

Course description

Learning a foreign language at AS/A level is about developing high order communication skills and gaining an in depth knowledge of the culture. 

Course content

AS & A level Spanish aims to develop a wide range of linguistic skills through the study of different topic areas relevant to Spain and Spanish speaking countries such as:

  • Spanish popular culture,
  • family and relationships,
  • contemporary Spanish issues,
  • Spanish regional identities 
  • Spanish and South American culture.
  • Knowledge of Spanish grammar is revised, extended and consolidated during year 12 in particular.

In year 13 the emphasis is placed on developing high quality language in order to access the higher grades at examination and finely tune translation skills.

Entry requirements

You will be expected to have achieved a higher level B grade at GCSE.

Students should be committed, hard-working and show a keen interest in the language, people and culture of the Spanish speaking world.

Future opportunities

Studying Spanish at AS/A level is not just for prospective teachers or interpreters. The vast majority of A level students go on to study Spanish further, in association with law, economics, medicine, engineering, retail management, business studies, and other leisure industry related courses.
