Biology at Merchant Taylors' Girls' School

Course description

Units include:

AS Unit 1 - Biology and Disease
AS Unit 2 - The variety of Living Organisms
AS Unit 3 - Practical and Investigative Skills

A2 Unit 4 - Populations and Environment
A2 Unit 5 - Control in Cells and Organisms
A2 Unit 6 - Practical and Investigative Skills

The school provides excellent laboratory facilities and equipment for practical work and a wide range of up to date text books for each student. Additionally there is a good Biology section in the school library. Science magazines are available to borrow or purchase to encourage students to keep abreast of recent developments. The department has its own PC computer and CD Roms.

In keeping with the emphasis in National Criteria the course recognises the social, technological and environmental applications of Biology. Students are given the opportunity and encouragement to attend university course lectures and may make some industrial visits if appropriate.

Entry requirements

Minimum A grades at GCSE level in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
