Course content

Level 3 certificate in Mathematics is a two year course which is split into four key areas; applications of statistics, probability, linear programming and sequences.

The course is aimed at students who do not wish to study the rigorous and highly algebraic A level in Maths, but would benefit from a qualification in Mathematics at a higher level than GCSE.

Studying this course will develop competence in using and applying mathematical methods and techniques, enabling students to improve their skills in mathematical thinking and reasoning.

TAUGHT THROUGH:

Whole class discussion; independent learning; peer assessment; one-to-one tutorials; on-line learning; ICT based learning activities.

Entry requirements

Minimum Grade 4 in Maths GCSE.

Assessment

Two written exams on the four key elements:

Application of statistics

Probability

Linear programming Sequences and growth

Paper 1: 40% (1 hour and 40 minutes)

Paper 2: 60% (1 hour and 40 minutes)

All exams allow the use of a calculator.
